Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers (such as Juvederm or Volift) can be injected as an outpatient. These fillers typically last between 6 and 9 months, at which time they may be topped up again.
Potential complications would be discussed at a consultation with your surgeon.
Fat Injection/Grafting
Fat grafting uses fat taken by liposuction from one area of the body (usually the lower abdomen or hips) and injecting it into the area needing enhancement. This may be permanent, although the fat grafts may reabsorb or be reduce with weight loss.
The advantage is that it uses the patient’s own tissue and therefore avoids the risk of allergic reaction. Fat graft injections may cause more initial temporary swelling compared with other substances. There may also be some fat reabsorption that occurs in the first 3 to 4 months, which may require further fat grafting to be carried out.
